Petasus

Three Gmail accounts. One window.

Petasus is a Mac app that keeps your web apps in separate workspaces, each with its own sign-ins. Your work, your clients and your personal accounts stay apart, and each is one keystroke away.

Free for MacApple silicon, macOS 15.4 or later. The first release is not out yet.

How signing in works

Separate worlds in one window

Every workspace has its own cookies, logins and site data, kept apart by macOS itself. Be signed in to your work Gmail, a client's Gmail and your own at the same moment. There is no profile to switch and no wondering which browser you were in.

Need two copies of the same app in one workspace? They get separate sign-ins too. Want two apps to share one login? You can choose that explicitly.

Light enough to leave open

Petasus is a native Mac app built on the system's own web engine, not a bundled copy of Chrome. An app loads when you first open it, goes to sleep when you stop using it, and wakes up where you left it, scroll position included.

Six apps stay awake by default. You choose the number, and you can pin the ones that should never sleep.

See what is waiting

Unread counts appear beside each app, on each workspace and on the Dock icon. Web notifications arrive as ordinary Mac notifications, and a click takes you to the right app in the right workspace. Mute one app, or set quiet hours for all of them.

Mail apps can optionally show exact counts even while they are asleep.

Quick to get around

⌘1 to ⌘9 switch apps. ⌥⌘1 to ⌥⌘9 switch workspaces. ⌘K jumps to any app or any page you have visited, across every account at once.

An address field is always there, so any web page can open inside the workspace you are in. Petasus can also be your Mac's default browser.

Quiet by design

There is no account to create and no analytics. Your history, cookies and settings stay on your Mac. Ads and trackers are blocked with the EasyList and EasyPrivacy lists.

One optional extra is off until you turn it on: a weekly anonymous performance report. Before you switch it on, Petasus shows you exactly what it contains. It has versions, counts and timings only, never addresses, titles, emails or the names of your apps.

Questions

What does it cost?

Nothing for now. If paid plans ever arrive, they will be announced before they start.

Which Macs does it run on?

Macs with Apple silicon, on macOS 15.4 or later.

How is this different from browser profiles?

Profiles also keep accounts apart, but each one is its own window. Petasus puts every account's apps side by side in one window, with unread counts, notifications and search across all of them.

Can it read my email?

No. Petasus shows the sites you open the way a browser does. The optional exact counts for mail use read-only access to label or folder totals, never to messages.

Do passkeys and security keys work?

Not yet. Apple has to approve browser apps for that, and Petasus will use it once it does. Until then you can sign in with a password and a code, or open the page in your default browser. The details are here.
